City to upgrade 13th Avenue in Philippi Horticultural Area

The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate will today, 17 September 2020, commence with the upgrade of a section of 13th Avenue in the Philippi Horticultural Area.

The roadworks will take place along a section of 13th Avenue over a period of approximately six weeks, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

It includes earth works, civil works and the placement of a new asphalt wearing course.
 
Construction work will take place between 09:00 and 17:30 on weekdays.
 
Traffic will be affected in both directions and flag personnel will manage traffic by means of a stop-and-go system.
 
Clear signage will also be in place to guide road users. Work areas will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow and to guide pedestrians.
 
‘The roadworks is part of the City’s road maintenance programme and although no congestion is anticipated, we recommend that road users consider alternative routes where possible. Local residents are encouraged not to park their vehicles in driveways, except when access is available. However, we will move or tow away vehicles that are parked in the road and obstructing the construction work,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.
 
‘We apologise for the inconvenience that will come with the roadworks and thank residents and road users for their cooperation during the construction period,’ said Alderman Purchase.
